[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The roles of the patient and patient environment in infection transmission are increasingly well understood, and most frequently addressed with patient decolonization interventions and enhanced terminal disinfection of patient rooms. Antimicrobial textiles are an additive innovation with a growing body of evidence for their use. In this session we will examine two healthcare systems decisions to purchase and use continuously self-sanitizing copper antimicrobial bed linens to enhance their infection prevention programs.

Jacqueline Butler will present the published studies independently conducted by Sentara Healthcare, and Dr. Richard Milani will discuss the role of Cupron Medical Textiles as a key part of Ochsner Healthcare’s Innovation Ochsner Optimal Hospital and their decision to deploy Cupron Medical Textiles across the Ochsner Healthcare system.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the role of the textiles as vectors for pathogen transmission, and the role of the environment in HAI transmission.
  • Understand the clinical trial data supporting copper antimicrobial bed linens.
  • Discuss how to review an economic and clinical case for deployment of novel infection prevention interventions with senior leaders using real world case studies.
